Low Temperature Brittle Point—Flexx-Sil™ Jacketing
Our proprietary Flexx-sil™ polymer jacketing material was recently sent out for ASTM D2137 testing: brittleness point of flexible polymers and coated fabrics. Brittleness point, means the lowest temperature at which rubber materials exhibit brittle failure when impacted under specified conditions.
The material is cut into 1” pieces and is brought down to temperature in alcohol. The lowest their testing equipment can go is -104°C.
The impact is done with a guillotine striker. Testing agency stated that they believe the actual brittleness testing to be much lower than -104°C because the Flexx-Sil samples were nowhere near brittle when they got it down to their lowest testing temperature.
